Looking into the New Year

1. Overview

I'm looking at doing much more red team operations this year, nuturing this writing habit that as been forming, taking my tabletop rpgs to the next level, and becoming healthier in a more wholistic way that meets where I want and say my core values are.

2. Red Team Operations

2.1. Certifications

I've been learning more about this from those in the space. This will include a couple of different certifications.

  • OSEP by Offensive Security
    • not an offensive security fan but seems to have clout in the red team groups
    • Would probably only do if I get Learn Unlimited (and in that case would try many other certs too)
  • CRTO by ZeroPoint Security
    • Already have the course and just need to finish it at this point
    • CRTO2 is out too which would be great
  • CRTP by Pentester Academy
    • Already have the course
    • Didn't pass on my first attempt

And unless, TCM Academy publishing a red team cert, this will keep me busy for certs this year.

2.2. Courses

  • C2 in C# by ZeroPoint Security
    • Already have and would make a great project showcase
  • Malware Development Beginners by Sektor7
    • Already have and would make a great project showcase
  • Malware Development Intermediate by Sektor7
    • Would need to purchase
    • but only after the beginner's course is completed and showcased
  • Offensive Driver Development
    • Would need to purchase
    • Probably last on the year
  • AD CS Exploitation by Alh4zr3d
    • Not yet out but would purchase

And unless something else comes out that priorities need to change, this will keep me busy as well.

2.3. Projects & Demonstrated Learning

  • Learning Nim & C#, specifically for offensive tools and malware
    • C2 server / client
    • droppers and obfuscators
  • Emacs blog nurturing
    • With letter and reports built within as further examples
  • Making, managing, and exploring attacks/defends on cyber labs
    • Learning Ansible / terraform / vagrant
    • Small exploration write ups with attacking, collecting the logs, and mitigating

3. Writing Habit

I found out that I like reading some of the philosophy classics from Plato and Aristotle. This coupled with wanting to learn a bit more of the classics in general, means I might write on some of these topics. Especially, from the self-educated liberal arts perspective.

  • Keeping this blog going (and so far so good, just had a break while in Korea for 2.5 weeks where I had no time for anything on my computer)
  • Learning more emacs to aid in the publishing (Like installing a spell check into today!)
  • Reading some books on reading better and language learning

4. Better GM in Tabletop RPGs

Moving more into the OSR style of play.

  • Picked up some rulebooks and working to integrate aspects into a single source document for players
  • More centralized world building and systems to manage NPCs, and in-game politics

5. Wellness & Health

Whole Foods Plant Based is a lifestyle and diet I've been considering for a while from multiple perspective, mainly and selfishly that my crohn's is in so much more control then when I'm eating processed foods, dairy, and red meats.

  • Currently doing a 10-day challenge
  • Collecting recipes and considering a small database within emacs to help with meal planning
  • Also doing some workouts, mostly bodyweight stuff that is easy to do anywhere, would like to switch to yoga or martial arts
